Integrative Health Consultations

Finally — A Doctor Who Looks at the Whole Picture

You've done everything right.

You've been to your primary care doctor. You've seen the specialists. You've had the labs run.

And the answer you keep getting is: everything looks normal.

But you don't feel normal.

Maybe it's fatigue that won't lift no matter how much you sleep. A gut that's been off for years. Anxiety that medication takes the edge off but never really resolves. A constellation of symptoms that don't fit neatly into any one diagnosis — so they get passed from doctor to doctor with no one ever really owning the question.

Conventional medicine is exceptional at treating acute problems. But when it comes to complex, chronic, whole-person health — it has a fundamental limitation: it doesn't have time.

The average physician visit is 13 minutes. That's not enough time to understand your history, let alone solve it.

The Integrative Health Consultation exists because you deserve more than 13 minutes.

What Is an Integrative Health Consultation?

An Integrative Health Consultation is an extended, one-on-one appointment with Dr. Ratliff — built around understanding you completely, not just the presenting symptom that brought you in.

Integrative medicine blends the best of conventional medicine with evidence-based complementary approaches — including nutrition, sleep, stress physiology, gut health, hormonal balance, and mind-body medicine. It doesn't abandon science. It expands it.

What that means in practice: Dr. Ratliff won't just ask what's wrong. She'll ask why — and she'll keep asking until she has an answer worth acting on.

No rushed visit. No clipboard handoff. No feeling like a number.

Just you, your doctor, and the time and depth the situation actually requires.

Who is This For?

The Integrative Health Consultation is for people who feel like they've fallen through the cracks of the conventional healthcare system.

It's right for you if:

  • You've been dealing with a chronic issue — gut problems, fatigue, hormonal symptoms, anxiety, inflammation, sleep disruption — that hasn't been resolved through standard care
  • You've been told your labs are normal but something is clearly not right
  • You're managing a diagnosis but want to understand the root cause, not just the medication
  • You're interested in a whole-person approach that considers nutrition, lifestyle, and mind-body factors alongside conventional treatment
  • You want a second opinion from a physician who will actually spend time reviewing your history
  • You're not ready for a full DPC membership but want to experience integrative medicine firsthand

No membership required. Open to patients in NC, SC, and VA via telehealth, or in person at the Waxhaw office.

How it Works

The Integrative Health Consultation is billed on time — meaning Dr. Ratliff's clock runs from the moment she begins working on your case, not just the time you're in the room together.

That includes records review before your visit, your consultation itself, lab review, and any follow-up communication after. Every minute is accounted for and applied toward your care.

Before Your Visit
Dr. Ratliff reviews your medical records, prior lab work, and any relevant history in advance. She comes to your appointment already knowing your story — so your time together is spent moving forward, not catching up.

Your Consultation
Your appointment is a real conversation. Dr. Ratliff asks the questions other doctors skipped, connects dots across systems that are typically treated in silos, and builds a clear picture of what's actually going on. Depending on your situation, this may include ordering additional labs, discussing lifestyle interventions, or mapping out a coordinated care plan with other providers.

After Your Visit
Follow-up lab review, results interpretation, and post-visit communication are all included in your billed time. You won't get a portal message with a number and no context. You'll get a real explanation from the physician who ordered the test.

Consultation Options

Dr. Ratliff offers two consultation formats depending on your needs:

Integrative Health Consultation

A comprehensive whole-person assessment covering any and all health concerns. Dr. Ratliff takes a broad view — examining the connections between your physical health, mental health, nutrition, sleep, gut function, hormones, and lifestyle. Ideal for patients who want a complete picture or aren't sure where to start.

$250 / hour — billed based on total time

Focused Integrative Consultation

A deeper, targeted evaluation of a specific health concern. Dr. Ratliff applies the same integrative lens but zeroes in on one system or area with more time and detail. Current focused consultation options include:

  • Gut & Digestive Health — Chronic bloating, IBS, food sensitivities, SIBO, gut-brain connection, and more

  • Allergy & Respiratory Health — Environmental allergies, asthma, sinus issues, mold sensitivity, and chronic respiratory concerns

  • Anxiety & Depression — Integrative evaluation of mood, sleep, nutrition, hormones, and lifestyle factors — going beyond medication management to understand the underlying drivers

$300 / hour — billed based on total time

A Note on What This Is — and Isn't

Dr. Ratliff is a board-certified family medicine physician with advanced fellowship training in integrative medicine. She uses evidence-based integrative approaches as part of a comprehensive medical framework.

She is not a functional medicine doctor — and she won't claim to be. Functional medicine is one approach that falls under the broader umbrella of integrative medicine. What Dr. Ratliff offers is broader, deeper, and rooted in over two decades of clinical experience as a physician who treats the whole person.

Integrative Health Consultations are a standalone service and are not included in Direct Primary Care membership.

Patients who go on to join Ratliff Integrative Family Medicine as Direct Primary Care members will find that many ongoing integrative concerns are folded naturally into their membership care.

Why Dr. Ratliff

Dr. Melissa Ratliff has spent nearly two decades practicing family medicine in the Charlotte area — first as Lead Physician at Novant Blakeney Family Physicians, then in concierge medicine, and now through her own direct primary care practice in Waxhaw.

In 2023, she completed a two-year fellowship in integrative medicine at the University of Arizona's Andrew Weil Center — one of the most rigorous and respected integrative medicine training programs in the country. She is also board certified in integrative medicine through the American Board of Integrative Medicine (ABOIM).

She uses that training every single day.

Not to replace conventional medicine. To make it better.

Her patients describe her as the first doctor who actually listened. Who kept asking questions when other physicians stopped. Who connected the dots no one else had bothered to draw.

That's what an Integrative Health Consultation with Dr. Ratliff looks like.

Ready to work with a physician who listens, supports, and partners with you for the long haul?
